Quilt Tales

A lighthearted look at the things which have happened in the life of one quilter.  Chris will be “formally” attired as she pulls quilts and quilt related items from her overflowing  suitcase and spins their tales while sharing what she has learned from each of them.

Threads - Untangled

As quilters we have always had a love affair with fabric.  In recent times threads have become as beautiful, tempting, diverse, and plentiful as the fabrics we love and choosing the right one can be difficult & frustrating.  After a good deal of research Chris is ready to share loads of information about the plethora of threads available, which ones to use, when to use them and why!

The Challenged Mind

Chris has always enjoyed a good challenge and the "brain play" it encourages.  Join her as she takes you on a journey through her inspirations, crazy side trips and the fascinating collection of quilts which resulted.

BUT I STILL LOVE YOU

In this lighthearted talk a costumed quilter will share her collection of antique quilts.  Although these quilts are not necessarily museum quality and some are quite worn, they each have their own story.  Chris presents these quilts with as much historical information as possible, a love for each one and a bit of humor.  The title reflects her feelings that even though they are not perfect, she still loves and values them.

Workshops

Parallelisms - Playing with color & design

This class gives the student the opportunity to play with color and design while discovering their inner creative child. By mixing some of the exciting fabrics available today with a variety  of sheers and a simple fusing technique, many interesting patterns may result.  Each  individual will create their own unique work of art using parallel strips and geometric spirals.

Repliqué Coneflowers

Learn this machine appliqué technique from Chris’ book and turn any photograph into a treasured heirloom.  By simply stitching on an enlarged photocopy accurate results are fun and easy to attain!  In this class the student will learn the technique, while stitching the coneflowers pictured on the cover of the book. Once Repliqué is mastered the possibilities for its uses are limited only by the imagination.  The all day workshop will also cover some basic finishing techniques for the beginning quilter.

Beyond Meandering

If you have been free motion quilting for a while and wonder if there is life after stippling and meandering, the answer is YES!  This class is for stitchers who are already comfortable with the free motion technique.  We will begin by learning and practicing some new free motion "filler" designs on small sample quilt sandwiches.  Each student will be able to bring in a quilt top of their own and we will have a brain storming session in the afternoon to determine which quilting designs to use on each quilt and where they will be most effective!  We will all learn from each other!

Mariner’s Compass Simplified

Traditional Mariner’s Compass quilts are beautiful, but can be difficult and  time consuming to piece. This class will change that!  Students will draft a traditional Mariner’s Compass using only a pencil and  a ruler. Then they will sew directly on their pattern using  foundation piecing  techniques - No math or templates!  Once the technique is learned, compasses can be made any shape and size!
