During Show and Tell at our ThreadBenders guild meeting MaryJo showed her cat quilt.
Everyone (even the non-cat people) oohed and ahhed. Then she told us how she did it and we were all intrigued. MaryJo is a much in demand long-arm quilter in the Milwaukee area, and these cats were part of a pantograph long-arm quilting design. To make the quilt she seperated the cats out from the overall design and quilted them in her chosen arrangement. Keep in mind – there was no color involved – just thread outlines of cats and yarn. She then colored everything in with Crayola™ colored pencils. She said she ironed them with a press cloth, after she was done coloring, and the wax in the pencils melted into the fabric and made it washable.
She used the direction lines created with her colored pencils to add dimension.
Amazing! What an interesting idea?!?
Then to really make us smile, she invited us to take a closer look at the border:
The mice are having fun playing with yarn too! Delightful!
I was reminded of another “cat quilt” I had intended to blog about a while back – and never got around to. I took a class with Barbara Beasley in 2017 (click here for a post about that class). My friend Evelyn took that class too and she sent me a photo of her quilt “Golden Boy” when it was completed. Golden Boy has finally made his appearance on my blog 😁!
Thanks for letting me share your quilts ladies!
